There are several theories as to why Bonventre was killed, one was that he was a prolific ransom kidnapper and that besides drug dealing didn't sit well with Rastelli. As for Rastelli he was a terrible boss, it takes a while just to count the number of his own captains he ordered killed. It also seems Massino heavily manipulated him over the years for his own agenda.
