Two "ringleaders" of the Mexican Sinaloa cartel have visited the Netherlands last year, with tourist visa, police said. This visit may be related to laboratories for the production of crystal meth.

Police are concerned about crystal meth. A record number of meth labs were discovered in the Netherlands in 2020. Crystal meth investigations are now the top priority, said Andy Kraag, head of the National Investigation Department. The police suspect that Mexican criminal organizations cooperate with Dutch people. Police Commissioner Max Daniel in the AD:

We know from our visit to Mexico that leaders of the Sinaloa cartel have visited the Netherlands. Last summer, with a tourist visa. We use information from Encrochat to gain insight into what exactly they came here to do.
