DeFede only made $250,000 per year (excluding his own rackets) from his position as acting boss.

Yep and that was in the mid 90s when the family was decimated after numerous guys flipping and top talent being sent away. Madonna wasn't a brokester like DeFede. And who is really thumbing their nose at 250k a year in the mid 90s? Like thats some small amount hahaha. Even in 2020 250k a year is a fortune and over 4 times the amoung what the average American Household makes.

"Heading up a crime family is not nearly as lucrative a job as it’s cracked up to be, a mob turncoat said yesterday.

Joseph “Little Joe” Defede – testifying at the racketeering trial of Peter Gotti – said he earned only $1,014,000 as boss of the Luchese crime family from 1994 to 1998.

The approximately $250,000 a year doesn’t come close to what a corporate CEO – even an honest one – earns."

"Speaking of money matters, Defede said the total take of the approximately 100-member Luchese family over the four years he headed it was about $6 million.

After Defede’s $1 million cut, a lower-ranking mobster would average only about $50,000 a year, if Defede’s figures are accurate.

Defede broke down his quarter-million-dollar-a-year take as follows: a salary of about $60,000 a year, plus $50,000 bonuses every three months.

The money, he said, was brought to him in paper bags delivered in the bathrooms of various diners."

So from 94-98 , a brokester was able to make 250 grand a year as street boss/acting boss. This was right after the windows case and the Gaspipe and Amuso street reign where informants and murder was happening left and right. Amuso purposely put a brokester in that spot since he assumed after he put Al D'arco in who was stealing he figured if he put in a guy who never came close to that much money a year he wouldn't have to worry. And remember, 250k in the mid 90s is way more now. In fact, 250k in 1995 is equal to 382k in 2013. So yeah, anyone who thinks Matty Madonna, big time earner wasn't a multi millionaire from being acting boss is out to lunch.

382k for even 5 years is nearly 2 million. And I know Madonna was making more then what DeFede was overseeing the family, so what I said was all true. Madonna has millions, he had enough to lend 100 grand to Meldish and has millions in cash left for his family. Thats why he took the job. He was already old when he was made, let alone when he became capo and then acting boss. Over 15 years on the street as a Capo and Acting Boss...yeah his family is going to be just fine for a long time.

Yeah I mean obviously he isn't leaving his family the kind of money that Carlo Gambino, Tommy Lucchese, Chin or Bonanno left theirs with but it is definitely far more then what 98% of this country will leave theirs.
