IIRC Nicky Barnes mentioned in his book that he became friends with Madonna while Madonna was in prison for murdering a rival drug dealer.

Now I don't know what to think. All sources I've come across say he did 11 years for narcotics (24-35 years old) and that is why he didn't get made after he got out, even though he was pulling in mad cash, they couldn't induct a convicted drug dealer because dealing was officially banned and it wouldn't send a good message to other family members and associates. It's like giving a guy his button for breaking the rules. Not a good look.
If the murder conviction is true (and it's looking that way), that means he did 15 years in prison, got out and started dealing H with Barnes for 5 years, then back in the can for 20. Fuck he did a lot of time.
Skimming over Barnes' book again. He says that he (Barnes) was picking up packages of heroin from Italians and met Frank Madonna, who introduced him to his brother Matty Madonna. A few weeks afterwards Matty Madonna killed another drug dealer. Barnes puts the date at 1954 a few pages later. Later on he ran into Matty Madonna in prison "doin twenty on his murder charge".

Barnes must have it wrong. Madonna must have served only 15 years in prison, not 20 years. Because the timeline will be all wrong if it was 20 years in prison.

40 years old - 60 years old - 20 years in prison
60 years old (1995) Released from prison
63 years old (1998) Inducted into the Lucchese family

He did another prison stretch but I don't know what for and I don't know the dates, but it was 3 years or less.
77 years old (2012) Promoted to Acting boss
80 years old (2015) Back in prison held without bail
82 years old (2017) Forced to step down as Acting boss
84 years old (2020) Died from natural causes in prison
