The famous repentant Francesco Di Carlo, from Altofonte died at the age of 79, killed by the coronavirus in a hospital in the Ile de France region of Paris, where he had moved a few years ago with his partner. Di Carlo had felt bad in the past few days and he had a respiratory crisis from which he never recovered.

From Altofonte "Franco" Di Carlo had left very early, to move to Milan and then to England, on the tracks of international drug traffic. In the spring of 1982 he had been arrested and since then he was no longer released from prison, until 1996, when - at the end of his sentence - before being extradited to Italy, he decided to speak with prosecutors about the trial of life senator Giulio Andreotti. As a collaborator of justice, Di Carlo told between other their excellent relationships and a meeting in Milan in 1975, where, together with the boss Stefano Bontade, he held a meeting with Silvio Berlusconi and Marcello Dell'Utri, to decide the "protection" to the current Forza Italia leader, who would have feared kidnappings. Thus the groom Vittorio Mangano went to Arcore, in the residence of the Milanese entrepreneur. Di Carlo was involved in one of the never resolved international thrillers, the murder of the banker Roberto Calvi, which occurred in London in 1982 and disguised as a suicide by hanging under the bridge of the Black Friars. From that accusation the repentant had been acquitted.
