According to the authorities, the arrested would be hired by various criminal groups to 'settle outstanding accounts'. The highly professional organization used mobile phones to send encrypted messages.

Four of the suspects were arrested when they traveled from the Netherlands to Spain to do a new 'job'. They carried a semi-automatic pistol with silencer and ammunition, Spanish media report, adding that the Amsterdam police force was also involved in the investigation.

The immediate cause for the joint operation 'Bentley' of the Spanish and Dutch authorities was the liquidation of Abdelhadi Yaqout, known locally as 'Marco', in the night of 20 to 21 January 2019 in Marbella.

The Spaniard of Moroccan origin led a jet set existence on the Spanish south coast. He had several successful catering businesses, but was also deeply involved in international drug trafficking.
