Is Dominick Montiglio still a respected source or nah?

I loved Murder Machine the first time I read it and found Montiglio's story relatable, but after reading about his stolen valor and knowing what I do about his being a junkie, there have to be question marks about a lot of things.

For that matter, I found it hard to get into the book by Roy's kid because of how cloying it was.
