In Sicily, in the south of Italy, the mafia benefits from European subsidies paid to breeders. Criminals seek to appropriate large areas of land in order to recover the funds intended for breeders. In the past ten years, nearly three billion euros have thus ended up in the pockets of the Sicilian mafia Cosa Nostra.
