Was it because people feared Riina’s brutality and henchmen or because he had so many connections and so much money? He had a monopoly on the heroin trade at one time so it is safe to say that Riina and Leggio both had millions of dollars. Hundreds of millions. Most of it taken by the government surely.
You either listened to Riina or you end up dissolved in acid. He appointed his puppets in all families,if he felt like he is not able to control you fully , you are dead.
But again everyone are blaming only Riina for murders of politicians/judges/state officials,he was just doing what he was told,just did the dirty work.Its same when 2012 Matteo Messina Denaro was ordered to kill Nino Di Matteo, police managed to arrest them and stop them, at the end they are just doing the dirty work.
How could people like Riina and Denaro ever be considered big and powerful bosses when they are really just doing the dirty work for more powerful people in their own country like you said? I think it would be hard for the Freemasons to take on the whole Sicilian mafia if they ever were at odds.
