Virgil van Dijk has been named UEFA Men's Player of the Year, beating Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
HE is the first Dutch player to be selected by UEFA as the European Footballer of the Year. Marco van Basten, Ruud Gullit and Johan Cruijff did win the Ballon d'Or, which is organized by France Football. The UEFA award has been awarded since 2011.
