Cutolo talks about the encounter with Totò Riina: "He was ruthless, once I took the gun ..."

Many unpublished and interesting ideas in the interview given by Raffaele Cutolo to Il Mattino. In addition to the repentance hypothesis, Cutolo also spoke about his health conditions. The tired breathing, the thin face, the long hair the unkempt beard. "" We wait for death, "Cutolo replied to the journalist from Il Mattino who asked him about his condition. "Isn't the death penalty better? A moment of courage and then everything ends, so instead it is a continuous suffering ». He says his greatest pain is the thought of not being able to hug his daughter at the age of 12. "The next time you come to see me it will be the last time I can stand by her and hug her; then when she is 12 and one day, she will have to sit on the other side of the glass. "The days are always the same. I don't read much because from one eye I can't see anymore and on the other the vision is shaded. Some evenings I cook myself pasta and beans

Cutolo also talked about when he met Totò Riina on the run. "Riina was a ruthless man, I met him twice during his inaction and once I threw the gun at him."

The press release of the ministry on the interview is hard: "The Cutolo interview has never been authorized, the chain of responsibility that has led to this regrettable fact and exemplary measures are being reconstructed". Of course, Cutolo could have refused to answer: but, as his lawyer Gaetano Aufiero says, "someone who has not seen anyone for twenty-five years, if he is called to interview someone, he can only have pleasure ..."

The hypothesis repentance was however denied in the interview with Il Mattino. The journalist describes him in his article as a visibly aged man: "Breath tired, his face thin, long hair and unkempt beard, a sign of a certain carelessness, even if he maintains his own behavior. I would not have recognized him if I had not known that the prisoner I was facing was really him. He wears a blue shirt with white stripes and light blue jeans, but he no longer wears those golden glasses, then worn also by his followers, who gave him that intellectual air, from which the famous nickname came: "'O professor" , writes Antonio Mattone on the pages of the Neapolitan newspaper. The title of the article is eloquent: "" They want me to repent, but I will never betray ".

At the age of 80, Raffaele Cutolo, would suffer from diseases that would make his situation "dramatic". Suffering from prostatitis, diabetes and arthritis, the bloodthirsty "professor" would slowly die behind bars without support and without receiving the 'usual' visit from family members for over six months. According to the story of Cutolo's wife, her financial difficulties would not allow her to travel to Emilia Romagna. The pathologies of the professor would also include the detachment of the vitreous body of the eye that would make it practically blind and the rejection of the dental prosthesis.
