More than 15,000 cannabis plants and cuttings seized

CANNABIS. The Sûreté du Québec's Organized Crime Investigation and Coordination Squad (EECCO), in collaboration with the Trois-Rivières Police Directorate and Hydro-Québec, conducted 33 searches and 18 arrests in Mauricie, in connection with a cannabis production and sales network.

In total, there are 20 searches in commercial premises and private residences and 13 searches in vehicles. The searches seized more than 15,000 cannabis plants and cuttings, approximately 35 kg of cannabis in bulk, more than 4 kg of hashish, cocaine and methamphetamine tablets.

Police also seized more than $ 15,000 in Canadian cash, 10 firearms, approximately $ 75,000 in production equipment including several rotating ecosystems, and 10 vehicles as offending property. Theft of electrical service was also found in six places of search.

The Trois-Rivières, Shawinigan, Saint-Paulin, Saint-Maurice, Sainte-Geneviève-de-Batiscan, Champlain and Saint-Cyrille-de-Wendover sectors were targeted by this operation.

Two women and 13 men aged 26 to 64 were arrested and released. They must return to the Court at a later date where they could face charges of producing and selling illegal cannabis and stealing electricity.

The investigation tends to show that this network produced large quantities of cannabis cuttings in commercial premises or residences, then resold them, supplying traffickers in the Mauricie and Center-du-Québec regions.

Remember that under the Cannabis Act, it is still prohibited to possess, produce, sell, distribute or import illegal cannabis. The Organized Crime Investigation and Coordination Squad has been working under the ACCES-Cannabis program, whose mission is to reduce the availability of illegal cannabis in the Quebec market, particularly among young people, and to reduce competition. unfairly made to the SQDC by illegal producers and traffickers.
