Rare picture of Mark Reiter (left) and Gene Gotti. Reiter was a Gotti pal, and a huge drug trafficker. He owned a multi-million dollar penthouse on Manhattan's 59th Street. The previous owner had been Calvin Klein. He has been in prison since November 1987.

Five people, including a man said to be a Gambino crime family associate, were convicted of all counts yesterday in a Federal narcotics and racketeering trial in Manhattan.

The jury convicted the reputed mob associate, Mark Reiter, 40 years old, of Manhattan, and his four co-defendants of racketeering and conspiracy, which each carry maximum 20-year prison sentences.

Mr. Reiter, who also faces drug charges in Brooklyn with Gene Gotti, the brother of John Gotti, the reputed Gambino boss, ''was a major heroin distributor operating at a very high level with organized crime,'' United States Attorney Rudolph W. Giuliani said after the verdict.

In addition to the racketeering charges, Mr. Reiter was convicted under the so-called drug kingpin statute of running a continuing criminal enterprise, which carries a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum penalty of life without parole.

Federal District Judge Richard Owen scheduled sentencing for Oct. 24.

The case gained public notice last week when Judge Owen jailed Wilmer Grier, the defense lawyer for one of Reiter's co-defendants, on civil contempt charges because of repeated lateness and absences.
