I'll never understand today's coaches throwing long in short yardage situations nearly all of the time. You need 3 yards for the 1st down. There's probably a hundred plays in the playbook for that situation. But no. You drop your QB back 7 steps and take the sack. On 2nd and long situations, when they could pick up 4 or 5 yards to create a 3rd and short, they instead go 20 yards downfield and incomplete, creating 3rd and long. It's just stupid football. Interestingly enough, Belichick is the only coach who doesn't do this. He has no qualms about putting you to sleep with 4 yard plays. I really think the assumption that Sean McVay is a genius was premature. Jared Goff looked like he didn't even want to be there. Maybe a guilty conscience from the refs gifting him the NFC title.
