Who wasn't persecuted in America way back when? Even people of German descent were being persecuted during the war because of what was happening in Europe. It'd be easier to find an ethnic group outside of Anglo-Americans that wasn't persecuted.

It took until the 60s for there to even be a president who wasn't Protestant and look how that went over.

I think we can meet halfway and say that Italians, Irish, Jews, blacks, Latinos, Armenians, even Germans have all experienced persecution of some kind during the 1900s but in the case of Italians, persecution wasn't really a problem in the 70s.

Stereotyping on the other hand? Maybe, but Joe Colombo being the face of the Anti-Defamation League didn't help.
