The Spanish Guardia Civil says that the US Department for Homeland Security also participated in the investigation into the large group of Dutch drug criminals who imported more than six tons of cocaine to Málaga. The group would also have had cocaine transported to the Netherlands. Sources report that the Dutch suspects do come from the Traveller milieu in East Brabant and Limburg.
The Guardia Civil says that 6.3 tons of cocaine was seized this week . That is the second largest catch in Europe ever.
16 people have been arrested (15 in Málaga and one in Badajoz), and 20 have been searched. In addition, 300,000 euros in cash, firearms, expensive cars and many administration and computers were confiscated. The group imported large quantities of fruit from Costa Rica and had previously set up a business in Spain.
An 'infrastructure' was set up by the group, according to the Spaniards, where cocaine shipments were collected in the province of Badajoz at the Portuguese border. The investigation into the group took about a year. In that year 70 containers were imported to the Portuguese port city of Setubal. Cocaine was stored in both Badajoz and Málaga.
