After a man was arrested in Amsterdam with 50,000 euros in cash at Schiphol airport in April, the prosecutor's office in Haarlem started an investigation into cocaine smuggling to Canada. According to the public prosecutor, three people are now arrested.
The 45-year-old man from the Dominican Republic who was arrested with 50,000 euros, a 39-year-old man living in Hoofddorp and a 25-year-old man from Bunschoten. Research into the origin of the money led to a search in Hoofddorp, where the 39-year-old man lived with his partner. There was more money, a designer wardrobe worth 20,000 euros, expensive brand watches and a firearm found. In the car of the residents, which (like the house) was in the name of someone else, two suitcases with hidden compartments were found, containing over fifteen kilos of xtc pills.
The 39-year-old man from Hoofddorp has been detained since his arrest, while the investigation went through. After his arrest, according to the prosecution, he continued with criminal practices. That led to the arrest of the man from Bunschoten. According to justice, they made plans to smuggle a large amount of cocaine from the Dominican Republic to Toronto.
They were also recruiting women who, as couriers, had to smuggle money out of the Netherlands.
