Yeah, you're probably right. I guess it's just hard to understand the pathology of guys like Scarfo, what makes them tick. Similarly to Joey Merlino, he seems to be happiest when he's inflicting pain and misery on others. I'd say it's/was uncomfortable for people to hang around guys like this. I suppose Goodfellas encapsulated it well with Joe Pesci's character, his sadism and how everyone walked on eggshells around him.
