It was made in the mid 1950s so I'd hardly call it an early boxing flick but I did enjoy it immensely. Paul Newman did a very nice job of capturing the brutish Rocky Graziano. And look for an early scene on a rooftop with a very young Steve McQueen.

Filmed a few years after came "Requiem for a Heavyweight" starring Anthony Quinn, Jackie Gleason and Mickey Rooney in an excellent adaptation of an earlier teleplay of the same story. A wonderful drama and added real-life boxers like champs Jack Dempsey, Willie Pep and Muhammad Ali (just after he turned pro as Cassius Clay) added a touch of realism.
