Most criminals invest in amateur football clubs in Gelderland and Noord-Brabant to make a good impression. This is shown by research by Tilburg University on behalf of the TV program Nieuwsuur.

In the Netherlands one in three municipalities has to deal with 'infiltration' of criminals in amateur football clubs. Large places more than smaller ones. The wrong benefactors sponsor the youth training, pay players or place advertising boards.

According to Tilburg University, funds can easily be laundered or mixed with legal amounts through foundations. The chance of inspection by the tax authorities is rather small.
