His flipflop on Russia shows that he was weak with Putin, and is weak in face of backlash at home.
He may be in a bigger mess too. His refusal to bring anyone else into that room with Putin means there's no record of anything said or agreed to. Today Russia's MoD issued a statement:
The Russian Defense Ministry @MoD_Russia🇷🇺 is ready for the practical implementation of agreements in the area of global security reached in Helsinki between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump
They could say the agreement was anything they want to. What could go wrong?
