Those are the mini-apartment buildings with multiple (probably 8 to 10) units in each structure. All the rage now, especially in Queens. Those 4 doors on the front each lead to separate units. plus the basement dwellings, the SRO's, subdivided, etc.
Looks like he owned the whole left building, or a at least a good chunk of it. You can see a "Z" at the top the building and in both driveways. I think the daily news article yesterday said they owned like three or four homes on the end of the block.
