Invaders is won, then the North & South of Italy can go their separate ways.
The Mezzogiorno would be a failed state without the North.
This is a complicated question. The Mezzogiorno was not doing nearly so poorly under Bourbon rule. I mention the separation of North & South Italy only because I am of Calabrian descent, and I realize that Salvini has no love for Calabrians. I view Salvini as a potential hero despite this fact. A hero for Italy, a hero for Europe.
Perhaps the solution for the Mezzogiorno is regional autonomy within a reconfigured European state (i.e., the EU "after" the current EU collapses). Moreover, perhaps the land could be reinvigorated by a back migration of Italian-Americans to the old country.
The sine qua non for the Mezzogiorno is of course the eradication of the mafia
