I've never considered Italians white. Out here in Cali a lot of Italians pass themselves as Chicanos.
Oakasfan for sure they are white but aryans? Hitler considered aryans even the Scandinavians and the Germans born outside of Germany but never considered Italians as Aryans but as "Mediterranean race". Its absurd that they consider himself as aryans while hitler would send them in a extermination camp.
I believe it was Malcom X or someone who referred to this as something like "second place syndrome". Instead of fighting oppression, some minorities (and whites who belong to more recently arrived immigrant groups) fight over being the most serviceable to the oppressors. Sort of like the "house slave" mentality.
