Judging by how Robert Di Bernardo was a child porn baron back in the 80's and was given special privileges in the Gambino family, I'd say they don't give a shit.
Yeah, if they cared so much, they would have stopped it BEFORE they got caught by the law. If that's what it was about, shelving them now is like closing the barn door after the horse runs away. I think more likely they pissed off somebody big, but it was not serious enough to take the risk of clipping them.
