Sitting in my office waiting to leave work here in about 45 minutes and listening to music and thinking about what it was like to be alive in the 50's and 60's in new york lol...
I can tell you what it was like in NYC during that time. Tenement rent was about 30 a month. For that you got a three room apartment. No elevator no air conditioning. Hot night you sleep on the fire escape.
You worked at least a 5 day week. In the 40s your worked a 6 days week off on Sunday.
A good raise was 6 cents an hour.
No one owned a house very few owed a car.
But I still miss that neighborhood I still do.
Great stuff thanks. I have a big fascination with the 40's-60's time period especially in NYC. Love seeing pictures and videos from that time and hearing how way of life was.
