I can tell you what it was like in NYC during that time. Tenement rent was about 30 a month. For that you got a three room apartment. No elevator no air conditioning. Hot night you sleep on the fire escape.

You worked at least a 5 day week. In the 40s your worked a 6 days week off on Sunday.

A good raise was 6 cents an hour.

No one owned a house very few owed a car.

But I still miss that neighborhood I still do.



Great stuff thanks. I have a big fascination with the 40's-60's time period especially in NYC. Love seeing pictures and videos from that time and hearing how way of life was.
