As Moore is a politician a better whataboutism would have been Dennis Hastert, Buz Lukens, Mark Foley, or Anthony Weiner.
It would still be a weak argument, along the lines of 'Yes, I killed people but look at Jeffrey Dahmer', but at least it would be examples from the same wheelhouse.
Rollinbones is correct about it doing nothing to further the conversation. It's just an unproductive old Soviet tactic that is used when someone doesn’t want to / can’t add anything meaningful to the discussion to either prove their own point or discredit the opposing point.
