White supremacists have gone Republican since the 1960s. There isn't much about the Democratic party today that's appealing to white supremacists. The Republican party, meanwhile, ran an openly racist candidate for president in 2016. Steve Bannon, a noted white supremacist, played a key role in Trump's campaign, and was appointed to his cabinet.
