Should fisherman get a fat pension after 20 years?
Roofers?
Trash collectors?
Truck drivers?
Construction workers?
Maintenance workers?

They'd get laughed out of the room for asking. And, their jobs are more dangerous than a police officers' job. The numbers don't lie.

No one is trying to kill fishermen or loggers.

They are effectively zoo keepers, working with the most dangerous and most degenerate.
only police officers face the threat of murder as a part of their job. No one is out trying to kill fisherman or loggers or garbage collectors.
A cop on the street endures daily contact with drunks, the mentally disabled and violent criminals. They endure life-and-death situations on a daily basis.

Those other professions wished they had a Union to negotiate for them. Perhaps they should organize.
I think Pensions are deserved for all of them, but the powers that be, restrict them and have made huge cuts. They now want you to try to beat the market, investing in the shell game aka The stock market with a 401 K, Just hope theres not a market crash. What a racket. Arrest all the criminals on Wall Street and DC.

Cops jobs, like fireman, is vital and crucial. I support them. Ive had to call them once and was glad they arrived when they did.
60k year average to work holidays and weekends is not a helluva lot of money.
It might not be top 10 most dangerous, but its sure as hell top 50. Depending on the locale.

Bureau of Labor Statistics. A logging worker is eight times more likely than a police officer to die on the job, and a garbage man is three times more likely to die while working.

Out of approximately one million police and law enforcement personnel, with 126 deaths per year, the death rate for police is 12.6 per hundred thousand.
Thats gone down from the trend- downward in the last 40 years. Police work is getting progressively safer compared with historical averages:

From 1970 to 1980 police deaths averaged 231 per year.
1980 to 1989: police deaths averaged 190.7.
1990 to 1999: police deaths averaged 161.5.
2000 to 2009: police deaths averaged 165.
2013 to 2014: police deaths averaged 113.'
