I’m near Nola and have family in and around Nola. If you ask folks in Nola and surrounding areas like Metairie, Northshore, etc... is there still a mafia they all say yes. The sons & grandsons of all the players back then are all set up really well. The Nola LCN guys owned a ton of property in the CBD and surrounding areas. All the kids have to do is sublease it out and they’re rich. A lot of people the families are big in to real estate and building. One thing you got to remember about Louisiana is outside of being incredibly corrupt, gambling is wide open. Video poker is everywhere in Louisiana and the relatives of the same old names are involved. There are these “casinos” connected to gas stations and bingo halls all over south Louisiana. Between property and legalized gambling at the mom and pop level, there is a ton of cash to be made. The only traditional LCN racket you hear about is bookmaking. Football betting is huge. A lot of the same families from the Marcelo heydays are still very connected via business. All that said, is there a viable LCN? Not really. Are there guys with the bloodlines still sticking together and making money? Absolutely.
