The criminal justice system in this country is a very European-based system that was racist. They were the ones that took black gangsters out, not the Italians. It was the FBI who didn’t want to see a black mob succeed more than the Mafia.
This quote from the article by T.J. English reminds me of what that racist DEA director said to Ritchie Roberts in American Gangster:
"No ni**er has accomplished what the American mafia hasn't in a hundred years." According to Roberts this was really said to him by a government bigwig, who he didn't mention by name, to avoid a lawsuit I'd reckon.
