Social media probably drives vulnerable people further over the edge because they get to see how great other people's lives are and it further impresses how shitty their own lives are by comparison.

Stuff like Instagram puts a lot of pressure on people to fulfil unrealistic expectations of themselves.

A lot of kids document every stupid, drunken thing they do these days i.e. Snapchat.

So I can see that backfiring on people and causing them to make rash decisions.

The internet is just generally not good for people's self-esteem if it's already low.
