As the population increases, the components within it tend to increase. This can result in a rate increase because the pool of people has increased. Coincidentally, the opportunity for people to experience causes of suicide increases.
I would agree but the US population back in the mid 70s was over 205 million with suicides being over 1,500 in the past. Now it reach over 44,000.
