Jos van Z. (71) from Sint Willebrord, a (former) leader from the criminal environment in the region, died of the injuries of a car crash in September. He tried to escape the police in his Audi RS. Sint Willebrord is one of those Brabant villages where gangs have a long history, over a hundred years. Van Z. was repeatedly in the news in high-profile international drug cases in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1982 he was one of the first gang leaders who was convicted in the Netherlands for the large-scale production of amphetamine. Later, other controversial and sometimes very expensive criminal investigations followed in which he figured alongside well-known leaders from the drug world.
