Hump was the real deal ! Can't help but like some of his mannerisms. He wasn't shy about letting his feelings be known......to anyone. The story goes that he told Accardo he "stood out like s sore thumb in his big mansion." Also indicated that DeStefano would need to be "dealt with," and Giancana was drawing too much attention and was out of town too much. These are comments I have read or been told.

I don't think Alex wanted anything to do with the Operating Boss's job, neither did Battaglia, IMO. Some of these guys recognized the vulnerability of being in the top position while others possibility let their ego get the best of them. By the late 50's early 60's, tenure in the top job was very short.

Marcy makes a good point about the lack of reason among these guys. Boy Scouts they were not.
