it's funny the family was named after one of the worst bosses they had and not after Luciano or Costello.
There was probably little objection to Vito naming the family after himself because it just made him a lightening rod to authorities, which I'm sure the Luciano/Costello faction was perfectly fine with. I doubt Luciano ever really wanted people walking around attaching his name to the family's rackets, anyway. Doesn't seem like his style.
