I would say Tony bender had is ear bent aswell..Bill bonanno was no soft child.He did have the silver spoon past to him but he also clipped guys and done a lot of time.He also protected one of the all time old school godfathers into old age.Bill went to sleep knowing and doing a lot more than anyone on the streets today.
I will give you that on Bill Bonanno. He did his time. Junior Gotti did his time too. He just always felt very fake to me. Bill Bonanno seemed like a country club kid when put on his gangster hat and tried to live a street life. Maybe I'm wrong...but I do see your point.
He probably only ended up in the life because of the Sicilian tradition of sons following their fathers into the mob.
Tommy Gambino would be another. I'm not calling him a douche, he's probably a gentleman but there's no way he winds up in the mob if he wasn't the son of Carlo.
