Wolf Creek *** (1st time; big screen) 2005, McLean, Australia Three backpackers, an Australian male and two English tourists, are stranded in the Outback, and take the offered help of a seemingly genuine local. Effective, confident piece of filmmaking; taking measured turns in subtlety and hard-hitting violence, it is a fine blend of past horrors, while also managing to stand on its own as a psychological and aesthetic treat.
A contender for film of the year.
