Dicaprio is producing and starring in film about Italian American hero Giuseppe “Joseph” Petrosino

First time reading about this guy,I figured that the Andy Garcia character in the Untouchables film HAD to have been based on/named for him. Like I said in another thread, without Petri, the Untouchables is a different film and more like an old Western.

Leonardo DiCaprio will take on the role as Italian-born Giuseppe “Joseph” Petrosino in the upcoming adaptation of Stephan Talty’s book “The Black Hand,” which follows the cop’s doomed investigation into the roots of the mob in America.

The movie will be announced at the Italian American Museum in Little Italy.

Petrosino, nicknamed the “Detective in the Derby,” was dispatched to Italy in 1909 and was waiting for an alleged informant in Palermo when he ambushed by a group of gunmen and shot four times.

His murder had long been a mystery until 2014, when the Italian police arrested 95 suspected Mafia members in connection to his death.
