No Chaz wasn't Gere father Robert loggia was his father. The only thing that the movie should have done that it didn't do was have loggia there when he graduated and loggia saluted him. It would have made for a better movie.
Oh ok. I really couldn't remember who played his father, been so long since I've seen that film. Loggia is an excellent actor. I agree he should have been there and saluted him. I was just watching an interview where Gere talks about how they had to use a double for the karate fighting scenes because the actor fighting Gere couldn't get the routine down. So he got pissed and left the set, came back a few days later
