My opinion on the Drury case is that he was killed for two reasons, one was the exposure of the Outfit's operations and the other one is for his alleged swindling of the mob.

Drury mainly worked to expose corruption in the Chicago Police Department and during the 1940's he was suspended from the police department. Later he became a crime reporter for the Chicago Herald-American and the Miami Daily News and In 1950, when Kefauver launched an investigation into organized crime and Drury was the one who provided most of the testimony.

Regarding his alleged schemes, Drury allegedly once threatened a witness to make positive identification on James Ragen’s slayers, including Lenny Patrick, Dave Yaras and William Block. Drury and one of his partners were called by a grand jury for conspiracy and later they were suspended. Allegedly Drury also tried to blame Patrick and Yaras for the murder of Bugsy Siegel in Los Angeles.

Drury was in very bad shape with Jack Guzik and so I believe that Guzik was the one who screamed for Drury's demise and Ricca, Campagna and Accardo gladly approved it.

Now, regarding Drury's killers, there were three suspected so-called hit squads, one was the imported killer from Brooklyn, New York, Tony Rotondo. The story came when some guy who was arrested for something over there, told the cops that Rotondo was in fact Drury's killer and that he took a lot of cash for the job.

The second group of suspects were the so-called Three Doms, Dom Nuccio, Dom DiBella, Dom Brancato and the third group of suspects, info which was received from an anonymous phone call that Fat Leonard Caifano, Sam Marcelli and Charles Nicoletti were the hit team on Drury.
