A 84-year-old Westmoreland County woman is facing felony homicide charges after she suffered a diabetic emergency behind the wheel in May 2015, during which she caused a three-vehicle crash and killed a man in the Country Side Plaza parking lot in East Huntingdon.

According to a criminal complaint, Dolores June Heard of Baden ignored her diabetic symptoms and continued to drive despite knowing the risks. She told police she had no memory of the crash on May 18, 2015, only remembering construction cones near the intersection at SR 819 and SR 119 while driving northbound toward Mount Pleasant.

Prior to the crash, Ms. Heard was certain she was suffering a diabetic emergency, according to the complaint. She felt sluggish inside the Scottdale Savings and Trust in Scottdale, Westmoreland County. She told police that she ate two 15-gram gel packets of glucose to raise her blood sugar and was assisted to her vehicle. She waited around 10-15 minutes before driving off.
