I agree with you. I think, as usual, there is a bit of political tightrope walking.I think part of it is based on the future hispanic vote.....the rest is based on....when this Trump phase goes away.....politicians want to be able to say that they were on the record as opposing Trump.
Foot, Some of the hispanic immigrants here had no intention of staying here permanently. Just came here to work, send money back home to support families. Many had no intention of assimilating or establishing careers. You are right though! Any immigrant who comes here, for any amount of time...your options are limited by the amount of English you speak..PERIOD. Forward thinking immigrants will always try to learn the language......if only to be able to make more money.
The legal way of immigration is going to bring more of the forward thinking immigrants here....as it tends to bring in the most ambitious and resourceful people.......and weeds out a lot of the others.
