It is sad because he was such a likable character. On the other hand he lived a long life and is to be expected that he would die soon.

I first saw Vigoda on Broadway back around 1967. My sister-in-law's sister was an actress and she was in a play "Marat-Sade" (an artsy kind of thing I would not normally go to see). Anyway, Vigoda was in the play and although I don't remember taking note of him I was somewhat surprised of learning that some years later when I looked up some info on the production.

I always liked him as "Fish" on television and enjoyed seeing him more recently in some commercials.
