There are Martines in Italy, the name would have originally been Spanish and likely dates back to when the Spanish Bourbons ruled the Kingdom of Naples/ Kingdom of Sicily. Many stayed in Italy, had children, etc. Over time the name spelling changed from the 'ez' suffix to the 'es'
Many different ethnicities settled in italy over the years and some surnames reflect that. Persico (means Persian), Tedeschi/Tedesco (means German), Greco (duh), Mormando (means Norman)
