Ralphie got him a job at the Javit Centre with the Carpenters, after he was booted out of the Carpenters union THEN he started the construction company, although I'm not sure if Lenny set himself up with the construction company or Ralphie had a hand in it. Obviously the projects that this construction company got was because of Ralphie and Barney.
