He was whacked because Lenny Simon--a jealous creep who'd still be driving a cab if it wasn't for Ralph and Barney--got into Farby's ear, and Farby was always a little jealous of the monster earners in that family. Especially the younger guys. But you say tomato....
But you're correct. Because at the end of the day "skimming" was the excuse they used to justify the hit.
The money Ralphie was skimming came from Lenny's construction firm which was supposed to be handed over to the Westside higher-ups.
Just a little theory....
Farby could have asked Lenny..."You sending $40,000 a month?" and Lenny replies: "No I'm sending $50,000 a month".
It is easy to work out the missing $10,000 was skimmed by Ralphie in this example.
Lenny might not have been yapping in Farby's ear, Farby might have just straight out asked him how much he is kicking up.
