The Belmont Stakes always has a short field because the trainers are afraid of the stretch. You mentioned the eight horse field as one of your excuses.
Secretariat ran the Belmont against four other horses. Now I'm not comparing this horse to Secretariat. That would be ridiculous. But for Christ's sake, give a little credit where it's due. Do you have any idea what the stud fees are going to be for this horse? They'll break every record in the book.
As an aside, I've never been to a louder sporting event in my life. And I was at the Giants-Skins NFC Championship game in '86, and game seven of Mets-Red Sox, also in '86. It was insane.
