I got my first cell phone in 1989, a few years before they became the norm. It was a Motorola about the size of a VHS tape, but a little narrower. By '93, or '94 the smaller flip phones were starting to become popular, and by the mid or late '90s the Motorola StarTAC seemed so far out that it may as well have come off the USS Enterprise. We've come a long way since Maxwell Smart and his shoe phone (which to a grade school kid in the '60s was just about the coolest thing ever).
