No a VPN would change your IP adress which isn't necessary in your case.
Those are cookies which sites use to advertise based on the sites you visit. You can delete your cookies and these ads might go away for a while until you delete your cookies again. However if you have google chrome or mozilla firefox then you should download adblock. It prevents any kind of advertisement even those annoying ones that play before a video.

Edit: A vpn shouldn't cause problems, but they are primarily used by hackers and people living in countries that censor sites on the internet.
